- Conference to examine key issues affecting rural women's lives
The ACCBank Women and Agriculture Conference was launched today (8 August 2008) by Mairead McGuinness MEP. The Conference will examine key issues affecting rural women's lives such as succession planning and pensions.
The ACCBank Women and Agriculture Conference takes place on World Rural Women's Day on October 15 2008 in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone.
Speakers at the conference will include renowned psychologist and broadcaster Dr Maureen Gaffney, who will discuss the experience of "marrying into" the family farm, Mary Sherry, Chair of the IFA's Family and Social Affairs Committee, and solicitor Frank Lanigan, who is an expert on family farm succession.
Other speakers will include Lyn Sykes, international family farm succession expert, and Robyn Moore from Australia who is highly regarded internationally for her ability to empower and motivate her audience.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Mr. Brendan Smith TD will officially open the conference.
The ACCBank Women and Agriculture Conference is organised by the Irish Farmers Journal. Speaking at the launch, Mairead Lavery of the Irish Farmers Journal, said, "The goal of this conference is to inform and inspire women in agriculture to meet the challenges of an ever-changing agricultural and rural landscape. We have a powerful line-up of speakers who will make this an unmissable event. We are delighted with ACCBank's sponsorship of the conference and we look forward to welcoming women from all strands of agriculture to Athlone."
"ACCBank experiences on a daily basis the enormous contribution women make to the success of the family farm in Ireland. As such, we are delighted to follow our 2003 sponsorship with our sponsorship of the ACCBank Women and Agriculture Conference 2008. We hope the conference will enable the women to make life altering decisions. The conference's focus on succession in the context of the family farm is a very important issue. It needs careful management from an early date and we hope the bank can contribute to enabling smooth succession," said Paddy Horgan, Head of Agribusiness, ACCBank.
