ACCBank Women and Agriculture Conference 2008 - An Irish Farmers Journal Event

Close your eyes and conjure up the image of a farmer….it is invariably a man in a field, or a man on a tractor….always a man!  Women in agriculture can be invisible and do deserve more recognition for their contribution to farming.

This timely new national conference organised by the Irish Farmers Journal and sponsored by ACCBank, aims to empower, inform, inspire and recognise the role of women in agriculture.

This conference will look at the key issues affecting rural women’s lives:
-    Pension planning and recent social welfare changes
-    Succession planning for the family farm
-    The family dynamic
-    Re-engaging with yourself

Let Lyn Sykes, renowned international farm family succession planner guide you through the minefield of succession and inform you how to get that important conversation happening around your kitchen table.  Information and analysis of the Irish situation will be provided by experienced solicitor Frank Lanigan, who will provide us with practical case studies.  Renowed psychologist and RTÉ broadcaster Maureen Gaffney will discuss how marrying in and your position in the farm family can make it difficult to find your voice.

Other speakers will inform you on relevant issues including Terry Cunningham of Teagasc who will discuss the changing farm family dynamic and how agriculture needs women.  Mary Sherry Chair of the IFA’s Farm Family Committee will update the conference on the recent changes around social welfare pensions for farm women.  The Pensions Board who is also supporting the event will make delegates aware of the importance of pension planning.

The key note speaker, Robyn Moore from Australia, is a life altering speaker who will empower and motivate our audience to move forward, with the confidence to make the changes you want in your life.  Her talk is aimed to get you to re-engage with your life, your agricultural business, family, relationships, well-being, the community and yourself!
